Daisies are commonly grown from seed. Daisy seeds can be directly seeded into the flowerbed. They look best in clumps. Broadcast spreading of the seed will work well. With an indoor start, annuals and some perennial varieties will bloom the first year. For indoor starts, plant in pots or trays six to eight weeks before the last frost in your area. Established perennial varieties can be separated by division. This should be done every 3-4 years to avoid over-crowding.. Dig up the clump and separate it into groups for replanting.
Grow Daisies in full sun. For perennial varieties, plan on blooming the second year. Select a sunny location where they can grow undisturbed for years. Soil should be rich and well draining. Prior to planting, add generous amounts of manure and compost.
Water plants during dry periods. Add a general purpose fertilizer in the early growth stage, and once a month afterwards. Just prior to blooming, use a fertilizer high in Phosphorous to help promote big, bright blooms.
When n full bloom, cut flowers for indoor arrangements.
In cold weather regions, provide a thick layer of mulch for winter protection.
Daisies seldom are bothered by insects and disease. Generally, these plants do not need insecticides or fungicides. On rare occasion where insects or disease are a problem, treat them with an insecticidal soap and /or fungicide at the earliest sign of trouble.
